The film, which was released in the summer of 2013, also starred rising star and <em>Creed<\/em> lead actor, Michael B. Jordan, was based on a true story about a black man named Oscar Grant, who hailed from the Bay Area and was shot and killed by a BART police officer despite posing no threat and being handcuffed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/012813-national-black-history-Ryan-Coogler.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14415\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/012813-national-black-history-Ryan-Coogler.jpg\" alt=\"012813-national-black-history-Ryan-Coogler\" width=\"628\" height=\"353\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/012813-national-black-history-Ryan-Coogler.jpg 628w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/012813-national-black-history-Ryan-Coogler-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The film performed remarkably well at the box office due to its controversial subject matter that delved heavily into the hot topic of police brutality against people of color.<\/p>\n<p>And now with the runaway success of <em>Creed<\/em>,\u00a0which enjoyed a massive opening at the box office during its opening\u00a0weekend, solidifying the prospect of a sequel and resurrecting the appeal of the<em> Rocky<\/em> franchise \u2013 it\u2019s clear that the 29-year-old director is poised for a very long and rewarding career.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully he doesn\u2019t have to wait long for his next ambitious project as it has been confirmed that Coogler is in negotiations to direct Marvel Studios\u2019 <em>Black Panther<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Up and coming actor <em>Chadwick Boseman<\/em> has already been cast as the superhero named T\u2019Challa who oversees the kingdom of Wakanda \u2013 fictional province in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and was introduced to fans of the Fantastic Four comic books.
