{"id":13749,"date":"2015-03-11T00:29:17","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T00:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/?p=13749"},"modified":"2015-03-11T00:30:56","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T00:30:56","slug":"pharrell-williams-robin-thicke-pay-7-million-song-poachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/11\/pharrell-williams-robin-thicke-pay-7-million-song-poachers\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke Have to Pay $7 Million for Being Song Poachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p>Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke have been ordered to pay up. <em>Blurred Lines<\/em> the mega hit of summer 2013 has been a bone of contention for Marvin Gaye\u2019s family who claimed that the infectious tune was drawn from the archives of the late singer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThickePharrellWEB_0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13752\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThickePharrellWEB_0.jpg\" alt=\"ThickePharrellWEB_0\" width=\"470\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThickePharrellWEB_0.jpg 470w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThickePharrellWEB_0-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Turns out they were right because a jury in California has spoken and what they have to say will cost William and Thicke $7.3 million \u2013 the exact amount they owe the Gaye family after they countersued the two songwriters for having the audacity to sue them for daring to think that <em>Blurred Lines<\/em> was a tinkered interpretation of the Gaye\u2019s 1977 hit <em>Got to Give Up.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Of course it didn\u2019t help that Thicke tried to pass off his misdemeanor to the part of him that he claims was disoriented due to his intake of mind-altering substances. \u201cTo be honest, that\u2019s the only part where \u2013 I was high on vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio. So, my recollection is when we made the song, I thought I wanted \u2013 I \u2013 I wanted to be more involved when I actually was by the time, nine months later, it became a huge hit and I wanted credit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it looks like his credit has been adjusted to a debit payment which he and his partner-in-crime, <em>Happy<\/em> crooner, Pharell Williams have to pay in full \u2013 and they should be able to do that with ease.
