{"id":13546,"date":"2015-02-03T00:16:52","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T00:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/?p=13546"},"modified":"2015-02-03T00:16:52","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T00:16:52","slug":"oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-team-original-drama-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/03\/oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-team-original-drama-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay Team Up for Original Drama Series For OWN"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p><strong>Oprah Winfrey<\/strong> and celebrated filmmaker <strong>Ava DuVernay<\/strong> must have had a magical time on the set of Selma because they are carrying over their collaborative efforts to a new project that is set to air on <strong>OWN<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-own.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13547\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-own.jpg\" alt=\"oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-own\" width=\"670\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-own.jpg 670w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oprah-winfrey-ava-duvernay-own-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>DuVernay will be scripting, directing and producing an original series about a free spirited woman who along with her daughter leaves her privileged existence in L.A. to seek a more rooted lifestyle in the South thanks to the impressive 800-acre sugar cane farm she inherits from her late father who was based in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>Winfrey will have a recurring role in the drama that was extracted from the pages of the novel by Natalie Baszile titled <em>Queen Sugar<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Winfrey was captivated by the themes of the book and immediately saw the possibility of <strong>OWN<\/strong> adhering to its message. \u201cI loved this book and immediately saw it as a series for <strong>OWN<\/strong> \u201c. \u201cThe story\u2019s themes of reinventing your life, parenting alone, family connections and conflicts, and building new relationships are what I believe will connect our viewers to this show\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This new venture will mark Winfrey\u2019s acting debut on the network she founded back in 2011. It will also usher in DuVernay\u2019s first dip into the world of television.<\/p>\n<p>DuVernay who made history as the first African-American woman director to garner a best director Golden Globe nomination was humbled by the prospect of the opportunity to breathe life into a story that contains all the elements of culture, family, and identity. \u201cFrom the moment I was introduced to the book, I was captivated by the idea of a modern woman wrestling with identity, family, culture and the echoes of history. To bring this kind of storytelling to life alongside Oprah for her network is wildly wonderful.
