The social app is waning in popularity and after their latest end of year campaign, we are guessing they may lose a lot more subscribers than they anticipated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fb-year-in-review.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13244\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fb-year-in-review.jpg\" alt=\"fb-year-in-review\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In between opening gifts and assessing how much damage you\u2019ve caused your already weary bank account, you must have been privy to the \u201cIt\u2019s been a great year\u201d banner that is probably still populating your timeline. If not, you better pay attention because whether or not you concur, <strong>Facebook<\/strong> is declaring 2014 your best year yet with or without your consent as most of us annoyingly discovered.<\/p>\n<p>You basically have no choice in the matter \u2013 all you have to do is behold the final product, which consists of a video compilation of all the \u201clovely and amazing\u201d highlights that according to senseless calculations comprise of a year worth toasting.<\/p>\n<p>But in reality, there is no conceivable way of using \u201clikes\u201d and \u201cshares\u201d lumped in with random images to measure a user\u2019s level of happiness or fulfillment. This is evident in Eric Meyer\u2019s case who was tortured by the \u201cYear in Review\u201d banner that showcased his daughter who tragically passed away from brain cancer several months ago. Meyer was so moved by <strong>Facebook\u2019s<\/strong> deplorable tactics that he penned a piece about his heartbreaking experience. In it, the writer and web designer called out the social app for casually fooling around with the emotions of users without any respect for the potential consequences, \u201cTo show me Rebecca\u2019s face and say \u201cHere\u2019s what your year looked like!\u201d is jarring\u201d. \u201cIt feels wrong, and coming from an actual person, it would be wrong\u201d. \u201cComing from code, it\u2019s just unfortunate\u201d. \u201cAlgorithms are essentially thoughtless. They model certain decision flows, but once you run them, no more thought occurs. To call a person \u2018thoughtless\u2019 is usually considered a slight, or an outright insult; and yet, we unleash so many literally thoughtless processes on our users, on our lives, on ourselves\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We couldn\u2019t have summed it up better!
