She has not only made history as the first woman of color to earn a Golden Globe nod for best director of a feature film, but she also managed to capture the elements of a well versed period in a way that captivates the soul and restores faith in the method of storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>So many have tried but very few are able to distinctively present factual events in a stunningly affecting way. But thanks to DuVernay\u2019s solid approach and more than capable cast \u2013 <em>Selma<\/em> rises to the occasion without aimlessly drifting or relying on mandated clich\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Oyelowo<\/strong> who embodies the role of <strong>Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr<\/strong>. is spectacular in his delivery as he remarkably recalls a level of intimacy that is arrestingly valid. He is poised to be a front-runner for every nomination he receives this award season. <strong>Carmen Ejogo<\/strong> who is gracefully compelling as <strong>Coretta Scott King<\/strong>, has finally found the role that reveals her astute talent.<\/p>\n<p>The supporting players are also key holders to a journey that will leave the moviegoers gratifyingly informed and spiritually rejuvenated. The stirringly haunting theme song Glory was a collaborative effort between <strong>John Legend<\/strong> and <strong>Common<\/strong> \u2013 and it is clearly the perfect accompaniment to a piece that plays so effortlessly without skipping a beat.<\/p>\n<p><em>Selma<\/em> should be required viewing not just for a paying audience but for future generations who will undoubtedly need the reference in order to fully grasp the urgency of a time that continues to leave its residue in warningly tragic ways.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The critics have spoken!
