{"id":12840,"date":"2014-05-25T20:04:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-25T20:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/?p=12840"},"modified":"2014-05-25T20:05:06","modified_gmt":"2014-05-25T20:05:06","slug":"trendy-film-report-angela-bassett-directing-whitney-houston-biopic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/25\/trendy-film-report-angela-bassett-directing-whitney-houston-biopic\/","title":{"rendered":"Trendy Film Report: Angela Bassett Set to Direct Whitney Houston Biopic"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p><strong>Lifetime<\/strong> recently announced that actress<strong> Angela Bassett<\/strong> will be making her directorial debut by spearheading a film centered on the life and times of <strong>Whitney Houston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12841\" alt=\"whitney\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney.jpg\" width=\"434\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney.jpg 434w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney-300x331.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The biopic, which will be released sometime in 2015, will focus mainly on the intensely scrutinized relationship between the late singer and <strong>Bobby Brown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Both Houston and Bassett shared the screen when they both starred in <em>Waiting To Exhale<\/em> back in 1995, and even though that was a long time ago, Bassett who is an unexpected contender for this new project, is confident that she will up to the daunting task of tackling such a layered and sensitive subject. \u201cI have such a regard for both Whitney\u2019s and Bobby\u2019s amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like Bassett will not be indulging in the gross sensationalism that hampered the ill-fated couple neither will she be using the disturbingly revealing reality show <em>Being Bobby Brown<\/em> as a point of reference. But the question is whether or not she will obtain the assistance and blessing of <strong>Cissy Houston,<\/strong> the mother of the deceased icon, who has always remained fiercely protective and guarded when it comes to her beloved daughter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney-houston-bobby-brown-happy-660-reuters.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12842\" alt=\"whitney houston bobby brown happy 660 reuters\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney-houston-bobby-brown-happy-660-reuters.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney-houston-bobby-brown-happy-660-reuters.jpg 640w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whitney-houston-bobby-brown-happy-660-reuters-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There isn\u2019t much information regarding casting, but<strong> Lifetime<\/strong> confirmed the working title which is simply <em>Whitney Houston<\/em>, and the network also divulged in a press release that the purpose of the film is to capture the many highs and lows that the celebrity couple experienced throughout their fractured marriage.<\/p>\n<p>Houston died in 2012 after being discovered unconscious at the Beverly Hilton Hotel during pre-Grammy festivities.
